Katherine and Philip's Bicycle Adventure

You may have heard, I got a new bike- A SURLY. It's no FlyingPigeon, but it will have to do. Check out the racks and fenders, this bike is meant to haul gear. It rides like a Cadillac when loaded, gushy, comfortable and feels like it has shocks. It has 26 inch wheels, with 1 1/2 inch tires, so it can go almost anywhere.

Speaking of going anywhere, Philip and I took our bikes to Silver City, NM, loaded with camping gear and food for 5 days and rode into the Gila Wilderness. Our main destination was The Gila Hot Springs, where we camped for 2 nights and took 4 soaks/day.

Our route was the "Trail of the Mountain Spirits", which we had mapped out before we knew this. It wasn't long, but was very steep. I had to stop many times on the downhills because the rims were too hot to touch. One cyclist we met who was going from Seattle to Miami said we could do anything on the Pacific Coast Route if we managed the climbs into and out of the Gila Cliff Dwellings
.

On our return to Texas, we took another jaunt Ft. Davis-Alpine-Marfa-Ft. Davis. This is a trip I would recommend to EVERYONE. It's incredibly scenic, easy and you can stay in hotels. If anyoneis interested, let me know, and I'll be the trip leader- anytime.

Cheers to all. Katherine and Philip
